Breitling Chrono-matic History
The Breitling Navitimer Chrono-matic is powered by the Caliber 11 movement developed by Heuer, Breitling, and Hamilton-Buren. Released in 1969 (and dubbed “Project 99) these three companies worked with movement specialist Dubois-Depraz to develop one of the first automatic chronographs. Chronograph Details
The heart of Caliber 11 movement is a precision 17 jewel power train beating at 19,800 BPH. This is mated with a micro-rotor automatic section and a chronograph module mounted on top. It is easily recognizable from the outside as the crown is located at the 9 o-clock position.
Servicing the Breitling Navitimer
The movement is a complex yet well engineered movement. The modular construction is a great aid to the watchmaker during serving, as adjustments can be made to the base unit without disassembling the chronograph module. Broken parts often include the pusher arms, and jumper springs. This movement, however, was in good but very dirty condition. After cleaning, oiling, and regulation it ran like new.
