Rolex Air King History

The Rolex Air-King is a legendary timepiece with a rich history that dates back to the 1940s. Originally designed for pilots, the Air-King has evolved over the years to become one of the most iconic and popular watches in the world.

The Air-King was first introduced in 1945 and was designed to be both durable and precise, with a simple, readable design that was perfect for pilots. Over the years, the Air-King underwent several design changes, including a larger case and a self-winding movement. This particular model is the 5500 model with the 1520 time only movement.

Servicing the Rolex Air King

This movement had not been serviced for many years The case gaskets were brittle, and the oil and grease was black and sticky. The movement was completely disassembled and first cleaned by hand to remove all the hardened built-up oil and grease. It was then put through the cleaning machine. New gaskets were installed, and the case was cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner. No cosmetic work was done. After reassembly the watch ran well.
