Service & Repair of a Piquette Inc. Swiss Wrist Watch
Piquette Wrist Watch Repair Case Study
This page documents the professional service and repair of a vintage Piquette Inc. wrist watch, a lesser-known but well-made Swiss timepiece produced during the early to mid-20th century. Although the Piquette name is rarely encountered today, these watches are appreciated by collectors for their solid construction, quality movements, and understated vintage aesthetics. Proper mechanical servicing ensures these historically interesting watches continue to run reliably for decades to come.
Service & Mechanical Restoration of This Piquette Wrist Watch
This particular Piquette wristwatch presented as an honest, well-preserved example. While the exterior was not extraordinary cosmetically, the watch retained its original character and showed no signs of improper prior repair. The gold case was in fine condition, and the vintage dial displayed attractive period-correct aging consistent with its age.
The focus of service was the mechanical health of the movement. The watch received a complete professional overhaul, including:
- Full disassembly of the movement
- Ultrasonic cleaning of all components
- Inspection of jewels, pivots, and gear train
- Replacement of degraded lubricants
- Careful reassembly and regulation
After servicing, the movement ran smoothly and kept reliable time, confirming the underlying quality of the AMKO-based mechanism. No cosmetic restoration was performed, preserving the watch’s originality and historical integrity.
History of Piquette Wristwatches
Piquette wristwatches were manufactured by the Langendorf Watch Company, a respected Swiss watchmaker that operated from 1873 to 1973. Langendorf was one of Switzerland’s largest volume producers of watches and supplied movements and complete watches under a variety of brand names including Lanco. While “Langendorf” was their primary brand, the company also marketed watches under secondary and private-label names, including the rare Piquette line.
Many Piquette watches were fitted with AMKO-branded Swiss movements, known for their reliability and ease of service. Although detailed documentation on the Piquette brand itself is limited, surviving examples demonstrate that these watches were well-constructed and intended for practical daily use. Today, Piquette wristwatches are considered collectible due to their scarcity and association with Langendorf’s long Swiss watchmaking legacy.
