Repair of the Breitling Navitimer 806 Chronograph Venus 178

This vintage Breitling Navitimer 806, powered by the Venus 178 chronograph movement, underwent a complete disassembly and service. Each component was cleaned, inspected, and lubricated, ensuring smooth engagement and accurate timekeeping. After servicing, the chronograph functions—including start, stop, and reset—operated smoothly. The pushers, once fully disassembled and cleaned, operated much better than when the watch came in for repair.

History

Introduced in the 1950s, the Breitling Navitimer 806 became one of the most well known pilot’s watches ever made, designed specifically for aviation professionals. Its innovative slide-rule bezel allowed pilots to perform in-flight calculations, while the Venus 178 manual-wind chronograph movement provided reliable performance. The 806 model helped establish Breitling as the leader in aviation chronographs.
