Seiko 6217A-8001 (62MAS) Service & Repair
Here’s an example from my shop-a professional restoration and repair for the Seiko 62MAS dive watch. This 6217A movement was fully disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. The original dial, bezel, and hands are preserved to maintain collector value, and the crystal was polished to a like new condition. Although the case was cleaned and seals replaced, due to case wear it is not suitable for water immersion
Several key areas in the movement had accumulated thick dirt and old oil, especially the “magic lever” and ratchet wheel-part of the automatic module. When cleaned these parts showed very little wear, and still operated properly. After reassembly and lubrication it ran almost like new. See the photo log below.

Seiko 62MAS Background
The Seiko 62MAS (model 6217-8000 / 6217-8001) is widely regarded as Seiko’s first purpose-built dive watch, introduced in 1965. “62MAS” stands for “62” (the calibre series), “MA” (for MAtic / automatic), and “S” (Selfdater, for the date function). The first version was the 6217-8000, known as the “Small Crown”, produced very briefly (about two months in 1965), before being replaced by the 6217-8001 “Big Crown”. The larger crown was easier to operate, especially when wearing diving gloves. Because of the short production of the early “Small Crown” (8000) and early 8001 “Big Crown” variants, finding clean, original examples is uncommon, making them collectable.
