Repair and Service of the Wittnauer Geneve Professional Chronograph 7004A powered by the Calibre 14Y (Landeron 248)
The Wittnauer Chronograph 7004A is one of the brand’s most recognizable vintage tool watches, prized for its bold rotating bezel, clean dial layout, and reliable Wittnauer cal. 14Y (Landeron 248) movement. In this repair case study, we highlight the full service performed on this classic 1960s–1970s chronograph and the specific mechanical issue that caused it to stop running. See the similar Chronograph service with the 14YA movement.
Introduction & Repair Summary
When the 7004A arrived for service, the watch would stop intermittently. A detailed inspection revealed the cause:
- The sub seconds hand was rubbing against the edge of the dial hole, creating enough friction to halt the movement.
- This interference was traced to a bent dial foot, which had shifted the dial slightly out of position.
- After correcting the dial foot and restoring proper alignment, full hand clearance was achieved and the issue was eliminated.
The watch then received a complete movement overhaul, including cleaning, lubrication, regulation, and chronograph adjustment, bringing the Landeron 248 back to strong and reliable performance.
Brief History of the Wittnauer 7004A
Released in the late 1960s, the Wittnauer 7004A became a standout model thanks to its sporty design, countdown bezel, and robust manually wound chronograph movement. It remains highly collectible today, valued for its balance of functionality, vintage charm, and durable construction. This example is powered by the Wittnauer cal. 14Y (Landeron 248) hand-wound movement. Later models were fitted with the Valjoux cal. 7733.
